What is Galentine’s Day?
The concept of Galentine’s Day originated in 2010 on the popular tv show Parks and Recreation (Season 2, Episode 16) when character Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) invited her lady friends to brunch to celebrate female friendship and girl power.
Galentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to spend quality time with your besties and let them know how much you value their friendship and companionship in your life! Like Leslie said, the day is all about “ladies celebrating ladies” with love, laughter, and delicious breakfast foods.
When is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th each year (the day before Valentine’s Day). If the 13th falls on a weekday, ladies may choose to celebrate on the previous or following weekend.
How is Galentine’s Day Celebrated?
In the grand tradition of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day is typically celebrated by enjoying breakfast or brunch with your best girlfriends (waffles and mimosas are popular menu items!) and exchanging small handmade gifts as a token of your appreciation for one another. (Think Valentine’s Day gifts, but for the ladies in your life. Photo gifts are a fantastic option and handwritten notes are always a great choice!)
Other ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day often include going out to dinner or happy hour co*cktails, hosting a movie night with the ladies, or even going a fun day trip to a local winery, amusem*nt park, or other fun location of your choice!
